Separate customs clearance from vehicle admission
DGDA requires a customs declaration assigning the goods a customs regime. The owner or consignee, or an approved customs broker, may declare them. Customs release does not itself confirm compliance with vehicle-admission and registration rules.
Check the local inspection procedure
For ordinary used vehicles imported for road use, Order 085/2025 provides an arrival technical inspection and six-monthly checks at provincially approved centres. Article 28 temporarily allows periodic checks without prior individual approval pending implementing arrangements. Confirm whether later implementing arrangements now apply.
Prepare the national registration application
DGI's ordinary-registration procedure includes imported used vehicles. A new online application requires a tax identification number (NIF), supporting records, payment of the legally due charges and an administrative file check.
Documents and registration
Vehicle origin and ownership
DGI lists an import declaration or equivalent customs document as evidence of origin, plus a purchase invoice or, where applicable, a duly signed and registered notarized transfer document as ownership proof.
Owner identification
An individual supplies valid identification. A legal entity supplies its statutes, commercial-register record (RCCM), national identification and NIF. Confirm the full file for the applicant and vehicle concerned.
Confirm before purchase
Still unconfirmed for your vehicle. Check with the relevant authority or receiving agent before purchase.
- The current import-age limit, its calculation and any transition or exception still need verification against the official decree and its publication record.
- Confirm steering, emissions, condition and modification requirements for the exact vehicle. Left-hand drive alone does not establish import eligibility.
- Confirm any pre-shipment inspection, approved inspection provider and legalization of Korean vehicle records. Our US$100 condition inspection does not replace statutory checks.
- Confirm registration and inspection arrangements for the receiving province, importer category and intended use. Taxes, local fees, freight and delivery dates require a separate assessment.
