Poland customs and registration guidance
Scope: used passenger cars imported from outside the EU for registration in Poland. The authorities’ guidance is summarized with its conditions; vehicle-specific conformity, exceptions and tax treatment remain subject to assessment.
Sources reviewedCustoms release from outside the EU
Release for free circulation involves customs formalities, applicable trade-policy requirements and payment of duties or charges due. Customs clearance should be considered separately from the vehicle’s Polish registration requirements.
Preferential origin must be evidenced
EU–South Korea preferential tariff treatment depends on the agreement’s origin rules and the required origin declaration. Loading a car in Korea is not, by itself, proof of preferential origin. Verify the origin evidence for the particular vehicle before requesting preference.
Assess the applicable excise treatment
Poland’s tax authority lists import of a passenger car not previously registered in Poland as an excise-taxable event, with statutory exclusions. This does not establish a tax rate or exemption for your vehicle.
Documents and registration
First-registration evidence
The Ministry’s registration guidance lists proof of ownership, foreign registration evidence if the vehicle was previously registered, and evidence of customs clearance for a non-EU import. Conformity and technical-test documents are required in the cases specified by the rules. Confirm the applicable document set with the registration authority.
Polish translations
Warsaw’s official checklist generally requires a Polish translation of foreign-language application documents by a sworn translator or the competent consul, with specified exceptions including certain EU conformity documents. Confirm which exceptions apply to your documents.
Statutory technical-test documents
The official registration checklists require a positive technical-test certificate where applicable. Our pre-purchase condition inspection is a separate service and is not presented as the Polish statutory test.
