Qatar private used-car import requirements
Selected import and registration rules for ordinary used passenger cars imported from Korea for private use. Commercial trading, temporary admission, and exceptional vehicles require separate review. This is not vehicle-specific approval.

The ordinary rule prohibits used light vehicles more than five years old, calculated from the model year on the ownership papers or equivalent. Article 3 provides specific exceptions for returning Qatari diplomatic personnel and students, antique or limited-production cars, and special-purpose vehicles. Exception eligibility must be checked separately.
The vehicle must meet safety requirements
An imported used vehicle must be fit for its intended purpose and satisfy the safety and durability requirements established through technical inspection by the competent authorities. This requirement also applies to vehicles admitted under an exception.
Registration and insurance are separate requirements
For ordinary permanent road use, a car must be registered and licensed. Registration requires conformity with approved Qatari standards and safety requirements; licensing also requires valid insurance covering third-party risks in Qatar.
Documents and registration
Personal-use customs documents
For a sea import outside the GCC customs-union procedure, the rules include delivery authorization and a bill of lading. For a used car imported for personal use, Article 3(6) replaces invoice submission with an importer or representative's statement of the vehicle details and value, uploaded through the customs clearance system. Other applicable documents remain required.
Registration application and ownership evidence
The registration application includes owner identity, ownership evidence, valid insurance and, where applicable, representation papers and the technical-inspection application. For a vehicle imported for the first time, the customs release declaration is one accepted form of ownership evidence.

- The exact admissibility of the selected Korean vehicle, including applicable technical standards, steering configuration, modifications and any accident, flood, fire or salvage history restrictions.
- The model-year calculation for a particular shipment and eligibility under any diplomatic, student, antique, limited-production or special-purpose exception.
- Importer-specific residency or authorization requirements, commercial imports, and the separate procedure for goods already cleared within the GCC customs union.
- Acceptance of a particular inspection report. The association's US$100 inspection has not been established as a substitute for Qatar's required technical inspection.
- Vehicle-specific customs valuation, duties, fees, insurance costs, freight and delivery times; no fixed amounts or timelines are established here.
